In early May, Suomen Hy\u00f6tytuuli carried out test dredging in the area of the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm Extension project to test suitable methods for building offshore wind power off the coast of Pori at the Sea of Bothnia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The test dredging is a follow-up to the site investigations launched last autumn to test the usability of dredging methods and equipment for working on the seabed in the Tahkoluoto region. The test dredging has provided valuable information about the quality of the seabed of the Sea of Bothnia and about the suitable equipment and methods for dredging in the area. It has also provided insight as to how deep the dredging needs to go in order to establish sufficiently robust foundations for the offshore wind turbines cost-efficiently and in compliance with the criteria. In the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm Extension project, the wind turbines will be installed at a depth of up to 40 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suomen Hy\u00f6tytuuli will continue the seabed investigations in the area of the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm Extension project and advance the project. The project will consist of 40 turbines of more than 15 megawatts, and the construction is estimated to take place in 2027\u20132029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project will kick off with the implementation of a two-turbine demonstration project, which will pilot new larger-scale offshore wind turbines, significantly deeper seabed installations and seabed building methods appropriate in these conditions. The project strives to eliminate risks related to building offshore wind farms and create the means to build market-based offshore wind energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The demonstration project of the Extension project was granted building and water permits in December 2023. The European Union has granted the demonstration project funding under the NextGenerationEU recovery instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
